June 4th we left Mesa for our next adventure towards Washington and summer on the boat. After spending a night in Needles we traveled west too scenic route 395 north along the eastern side of the Sierra’s. We landed in the small town of Lone Pine. 

During the 1870’s Lone Pine, Ca was an active supply town furnishing goods and services to the gold and silver mining communities. Owens Lake is also in this area although dry now due to being drained during the 20’s to supply LA with fresh water.

In the 1930’s Hollywood started filming black and white westerns in town and the near by Alabama Hills. Often more than one filming production was underway providing employment for town’s people as extras or providing the horses and cattle. Today there are still films, commercials and videos shot in this area. There is a fantastic movie museum with lots of memorabilia. Anyone still have their Gene Autry lunch box?
