Bodie State Historical Park (Bridgeport, Ca) is a gold mining ghost town. In 1859 WS Bodey and ES Taylor stumbled on one of the richest gold strikes in history. By the 1870’s Bodie was a boomtown with approx 10,000 people, 2000 buildings, numerous mines, 9 stamping mills, 65 saloons, dance halls, a Chinatown and opium parlors. It was known as a lawless town, with gunfights, street fights, stage holdups and daily killings. One little girl wrote in her diary, “Goodbye God, I am going to Bodie.”  Bodie was the first town in the US to have electricity in 1892. Over 100 million dollars were taken from the hills. 

Today only 7% of the original structures remain after 2 fires destroyed much of the town.
