Kanab, Utah is a small, relaxed town that any outdoor enthusiast would appreciate. Gorgeous red sandstone mountains surround the town which sits at 5000 ft. We are here to volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. The sanctuary is 5 miles outside of town in Angel Canyon on approx 4000 acres. The sanctuary houses 2600 animals at any one time so although there is alot of activity daily in each area, the entire experience is more like a retreat than work. Calmness is the method of approach with the animals. They are all accepted, well cared for, given all needed medical attention, training when needed and are dearly loved by their care takers. 30,000 volunteers come each year to help out and many we met are returning from previous visits. George worked the entire 10 days with the horses. I was scheduled in dogs, cats and bunnies. If you love animals, this is the place to come visit and if you can, volunteer.
